If you want to listen to your favorite music on the go, but you can't be bothered transferring it from your computer to a mobile device, then streaming the music is the best solution. This is where mStream comes in. It is capable of streaming music over the Internet. This gives you the possibility of playing your songs on other computers or on a mobile device, without copying the actual files anywhere.

mStream is free and open source and you can have it up and running in no time. It is compatible with all popular Windows versions and it doesn't require any special tools or services. Also, the hardware requirements are modest, so you don't have to sacrifice a significant amount of memory or processing power.

Making the necessary preparations is quite easy. All you have to do is select a music folder and click a button. This will turn your computer into a streaming server in just a few seconds. Additionally, you can specify a different port, tweak the port forwarding options and log into an online account, for DDNS and SSL management.

Once your server is up and running, you can test it out on a web browser. The contents of your music folder are listed on the left half of the web interface. Clicking an item will immediately add it to a playlist on the right half. Once you have a playlist, you can share it with other people, save it or download its contents to your current device.

With mStream running on your computer, you will be able play your music anywhere in the world, without transferring it anywhere.

Pros

Setting up a streaming server is quite easy. The application lets you make a few fine tweaks. You can compile playlists, share them and download your songs to your current device.

Cons

The DDNS + SSL management feature is available to users only on an invite and lottery basis.
